ORANJESTAD — Aruba Tourist Channel is launching a new digital opinion platform designed to measure two perspectives separately: what Aruba residents think about tourism and visitors, and what actual tourists themselves think about Aruba, access to natural areas and the island’s future development. The platform will operate through opinion.arubatc.com and will include an advanced security layer powered by Aruba Intelligence.
The concept is straightforward: public discussions often refer to what “the tourist” supposedly wants, while tourists themselves are not always asked directly.
The new platform is designed to clearly separate those two audiences.
The first part of the platform focuses on Aruba residents.
It will measure how residents view tourism, environmental protection, access to certain areas, employment and economic development.
For example, residents can be asked whether certain natural areas should be completely closed, remain accessible under regulation, or continue allowing economic activity under specific conditions.
These results will form the local perspective.
The second part is aimed directly at visitors.
Tourists can share how they experience Aruba, which activities they participate in, how important environmental protection is to them and what type of access they prefer.
Questions can explore whether visitors support designated routes, smaller groups, certified guides, geofencing or stricter environmental rules.
The survey can also measure whether the removal of certain tourism activities would actually influence someone’s decision to visit Aruba.
This creates an important distinction between what Aruba assumes tourists want and what visitors themselves actually say.
Open online surveys also create risks.
On sensitive issues, results can potentially be influenced through repeated submissions, bots, automated scripts or coordinated voting campaigns.
For that reason, the platform will use technology developed through Aruba Intelligence.
Protection can include machine-learning analysis, session monitoring, device and browser signals, hashed IP indicators, survey completion speed and detection of unusual response patterns.
The purpose is not to determine whether an opinion is “right” or “wrong,” but to evaluate whether a submission is likely to be authentic.
Importantly, the system will not rely simply on “one IP address, one vote.” Hotels, resorts, airports and cruise terminals can have many legitimate visitors sharing the same network.
A combination of technical signals is therefore more reliable.
Visitors may also have the option to enter a promotional campaign after completing the survey, with the possibility of winning an Aruba Experience.
That entry process will remain separate from the survey itself.
Names and email addresses therefore do not have to be directly linked to an individual’s opinion.
Different campaign QR codes can also be used for hotels, the airport, cruise terminal, tour operators, Aruba Tourist Channel, Amigoe Aruba, Facebook and Instagram.
This allows the platform to measure where respondents came from without mixing campaign origin with individual identity.
The real value of the system lies in comparison.
What do Aruba residents believe is best for the island?
And what do visitors themselves actually say?
Putting both datasets side by side can provide a stronger foundation for public debate, tourism policy and future development.
Not: “We think this is what tourists want.”
But instead:
“This is what residents say. And this is what visitors themselves say.”
With opinion.arubatc.com, Aruba Tourist Channel and Aruba Intelligence aim to introduce a more transparent, better protected and more targeted approach to public opinion research in Aruba.
