Aruba Airport Extends Closure Due to High Temperatures: All Flights Canceled Until Saturday Morning

Oranjestad, Aruba – Queen Beatrix International Airport has announced an extension of its closure due to ongoing technical issues causing dangerously high temperatures inside the terminal. For the safety of all passengers and staff, the airport will remain closed for all inbound and outbound flights until 7:00 AM on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

Official Announcement from Aruba Airport

In a statement released earlier today, Aruba Airport authorities emphasized the seriousness of the situation:

“For the safety of all passengers, Aruba Airport is closed for all inbound and outbound flights today due to high temperatures inside the terminal caused by technical issues. Repairs cannot be completed in time, and the airport will remain closed until 07:00 AM on Saturday.”

Assistance for Passengers

Aruba Airport is working closely with airlines to assist passengers affected by the closure. Passengers are encouraged to contact their airlines directly for rebooking and to arrange accommodations. The airport will cover the costs associated with flight rebooking and accommodations if handled through the respective airlines.

Hotels in the area have been asked to accommodate stranded passengers from canceled flights on August 9, 2024. Accommodation expenses can be submitted to Insurance-claims@airportaruba.com for evaluation and processing.

Statement from Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino

Raoul Lemmerling, Complex General Manager of Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino, provided an update on how they are assisting affected travelers:

“We, of course, are helping our guests with arrangements. I think some of the guests have been returning to us, some of the guests have been extending their stays, but what I would advise guests to do is to check with their airlines and if they’re really stuck they can always come back to us and to the resort, and we will help them with finding accommodations in the Aruba Marriott, the Ocean Club, and the Surf Club.”

Lemmerling added, “I hope that tomorrow we have a better day and the situation at the airport can be resolved. But yeah, if any guests have any questions, I just urge them to reach out to us. We’re at the reception of the three resorts and we will assist as much as we can. Thank you!”

Moving Forward

As efforts to repair the air conditioning system continue, the airport and local businesses are working together to manage the situation and provide support to travelers. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
